Ryerson likes to welcome back its people with a bang. Starting of the winter semester was no less a reason to have a lineup of fun activities and events. This year, RSU had planned a few interesting events as a part of the Winter Week of Welcome 2011. Unfortunately though, everything could not happen as planned due to the demolition crews working nearby as a consequence of the fire that happened a few days ago in the ill fated Salad King building. But still true to the Ryerson spirit, the campus was abuzz with activities nevertheless.
A proof of Ryerson’s multicultural and diverse student life was seen on Jan 12 at the Campus Caravan which took place in the SCC where over 60 of Ryerson’s student groups had set up various stalls, each portraying their specific culture/interests. The ice skating and road hockey both of which were originally planned to take place as a part of this Week of Welcome, had to be cancelled because of the above mentioned reasons. But that didn’t turn out to be a reason to be gloomy about, as these events were replaced by organizing Free Heated Ram Patio Lodge with Shisha and Gourmet Hot Chocolate. The most anticipated event was definitely the Student Union’s Blue Mountain Ski Trip which was offered at an incredibly low price exclusively for the students at Ryerson. The Ski Trip happened on the 14th of Jan with a great turnout of adventurous folks.
If you think that was good, hold your breath because the best has yet to come. RSU has planned the most fantabulous getaway ever, that too during the reading week coming up soon, so that most of us can make it without much trouble.Yes, I am talking about the Montreal Reading Week Trip 2011, a 4 days+ 3 nights trip from Feb 23rd-26th. This whole package which includes all costs of travelling and accommodation is again offered at an amazing deal that I wouldn’t want to miss out on. Check out the full details here and reserve your spots before time runs out.
Stay tuned for coverage on more events and hope to see everyone taking full advantage of all the amazing things happening on campus!!
