Hey there, Ryerson students!
I’m back again with another tech tip to make your university experience a more organized and efficient place. Last week, I looked at cloud syncing services like Dropbox, which allow you to store files online for accessing at any time. This week, however, I’m going to get a little more social.
Tweetdeck (Windows, OSX, iOS, Android)
Tweetdeck is a desktop client (program) that allows you to manage a number of different social networks from one window. This is great for people who need to process a lot of information, or just like the freedom of a full keyboard, like I do.
Tweetdeck takes your Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare and Google Buzz feeds and places them in columns based on specific criteria. For instance, one column can be for your friends’ updates, another for the updates about you, and a third with a custom search of yours. Because I work for Ryerson’s student paper, The Ryersonian, I have a column with “Ryerson” and “Toronto” tweets, just so I can keep on the pulse of campus
I found that I wasn’t really a big Twitter user before Tweetdeck, but after I tried it, I became more active. Being able to see everything at a glance (and reply easily to messages) really encourages you to interact more.
Something else to note is that Tweetdeck is available across most platforms: there are programs and apps for Windows, iOS, OSX and Android. I love things that work well on whatever I’m using, like with last week’s syncing apps.
So, in short, if you’re interested in Twitter or keeping track of your other social networks, give Tweetdeck a try. You might be surprised at how much you like it.
