It is the first day of orientation. You step on to campus, which doesn’t feel foreign because you read my previous blog. Looking around, you identify several students in coloured t-shirts, all with a beautifully designed logo reading LEGACY 2012. You approach them, remembering what you learned on that fateful day when you stumbled upon this blog about what to know during orientation week. Seconds later, you are in your group having the time of your life with no worries in the world.
Don’t thank me yet as I still must share my golden nuggets of information with you, so let us begin!
1. Registration
You can register every day with either your student number or your one card on Gould Street between 10:30am – 12pm on monday and 11am to 12pm on every other day! If you can not make it to registration, fret not my dear friend as you can still attend the events. We will have a representative available to organize and transition latecomers into our events (They will be in a yellow ROC shirt with Volunteer on the back). It should be noted that registration is important as not only does it prove that you are a Ryerson student, but it also nets you free lunch. You like lunch right?
2. The Welcome Gala
We’re introducing a new event this year in the form of The Welcome Gala. It’s going to be pretty classy affair as it has art, dance, and awards! You can get your GOLDEN ticket when you register for the first time in the morning. The event itself will start at 6:30PM on Thursday, August 30th 2012 with a red carpet registration. RAC change rooms will be available for use for when you want to change though we recommend bringing a lock to have your belongings safe and secure.
3. So You Think You Can Cheer?!
We’re also revamping some of our older traditions this year! We are taking our So You Think You Can Cheer competition and turning it up a notch! The winners this year will get the chance to perform their winning cheer in front of everyone at LEGACY 2012 at our new Mattamy Athletic Centre!
4. Alternative Programming
Events like the black light party or the basketball game not for you? No worries, we’ve got alternative programming going on as well! On Monday we have Spinning classes available from 6:30pm to 7:15pm in RAC Studio II, while on Tuesday we have the Warrior Workout from 6:30pm to 7:15pm in RAC Studio I. Both events are run by Amanda from the RAC!
5. Charity BBQ
Another event that was hosted last year was the Charity BBQ. Remember you need to bring a non-perishable food item or a $2 donation to get your BBQ. If you need to get a non-perishable food item, stop by Loblaws at Maple Leaf Gardens. We’ve also got the Lemon Bucket Orkestra playing for everyone to vibe to.
Bonus Protip: Cash
You’re probably wondering about how much cash you should bring. Considering breakfast will be provided by RSU and lunch is provided by us, you will probably only need cash for dinner (even then only on some days). We keep your wallet in mind 🙂
There you have it! Some more information on LEGACY 2012!
