As Reading Week is next week, I’ve been coming up with a list of things to do for those of us who might not be going home to visit family. Contrary to popular belief, some of us who stick around might actually want to get work done.
In this case, I have to recommend you check out the awesome Toronto Reference Library (north of Bloor on Yonge). As the Toronto Library’s “main” branch, it stands as not only an awesome place to get work done, but a beautiful, beautiful building.
I go there every year in order to visit the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, which occurs every May and is free to the public. I’m always kind of in awe, however, at the multiple floors and the wide-open atmosphere. You can look over balconies and just get a greater feeling of freedom then the condensed stacks of Ryerson Library.
So if you’ve got some reading to do this Reading Week (imagine that?) take a subway (or well, walk!) and check out the library. It’s a very zen environment, and might give you a nice alternative to staring at books (and eventually procrastinating) in your room.
