Photoshoots, Good Food & New Friends | Jolyon Etaoghene | #RoadToRyerson

Hi there,

The countdown to orientation week is less than two days. I’m stoked to have my OneCard and become a complete Ryerson University student with all its ramifications. Here are some things and errands in regards to school preparations I’ve been up to this week.

Making Necessary Resolutions.

Classes begin September 8th. Then text readings, essays and the hassles involved with school work begins all over again. I am eager for the school year to start again but later, I will be thinking, “I wish I was on holiday.” Therefore, putting a stop to bad habits was one of the things I did.

Getting A Feel Of Campus.

I took out time this week to learn where my classes are based on my first class on Tuesday, September 8th is at 8:00AM. I want to prevent losing my way just so I make it ten minutes before start time.

This week, I met a significant amount of people on campus while making some inquiries at the Ryerson ISS office. I met two of the #RoadtoRyerson bloggers, Jillian and Rebecca coincidentally. It was good thing I recognized Ms. Jen Gonzales and Mr. John Austin on campus as I was on the go making those inquiries from Ryerson ISS.

Some days back on Twitter, myself and some guys answered a quiz from The Eyeopener at Ryerson and we were rewarded with a prize pack and a free pass for two to see the new movie, “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” The best part of collecting my prize that day on campus was walking into the team during a shoot and that landed me on the front cover of their first issue along with some of the Ramily this Fall.

What I Am Excited For.

Two days ago, I received an email from my Professor for [POG-100] People, Power and Politics. She wants us to create an account with Top Hat which will also assist in making our class experience more interactive, rewarding and fun. Reading through the email made me aware of how close returning back to school is.

I am excited for the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC) and the Ryerson Athletic Centre (RAC). When I walked into the MAC, I was in a state of awe. For some reason, I compared it to Equinox at 199 Bay Street, Toronto, ON. Its equipped status can help you reach your fitness goals in no time.

However, I am excited to incorporate the healthy meals from Ryerson Eats into my life. During the times I spent on campus, their bowls and salads made out of goodness was my go-to place when I had hunger pangs. Cheers! to the team running that part of the Ryerson Community.

Again, I am excited for the speech I will be giving at the Ryerson International Student Services Welcome Party and the video I will be featured in by Ryerson today.

MOVE-IN DAY

A couple of days ago, I accompanied a friend to the Pitman Hall for some last minute double checks. I’m somewhat jealous of the accommodation he got in such a nice atmosphere. Kudos! to the team that makes it happen for students there. The community feeling there is great. As much as I would love to live in the residence and be a part of that community vibe, I cannot live there because during the school breaks i.e. Christmas and summer breaks, I will probably end up being out on the streets. So, speaking of accommodation, residence wasn’t an option.

Nevertheless, I honestly can’t wait for the fun, free food, prizes and events during O-week. A week of festivities before classes is totally a good idea.

All the best,

Jolyon Etaoghene
