Photo Essay: Touring Toronto, by Susan Lee
Former theatre production student Susan Lee (Tzu-Hsuan), from Taiwan, documented many aspects of her life with her camera. Susan passionately photographed her life in Toronto and selected these pictures to share her experience.  Susan was also a proud member of the 2011-2012 ISS Peer Supporter team.
Taking photographs has become a habit of mine ever since I got my first digital camera in 8th grade. I adore beautiful things and precious memories – they are the bits and pieces that fill my life with happiness. Taking photographs is a great way to record these moments. I have a terrible memory and therefore, whether it’s about sadness or happiness, these photographs are the memories that I can always look back to, to either smile or reflect on.
After leaving my own country at a young age, I’ve become passionate about travelling. Toronto is one of the places that I’ve chosen to stop by. Here is a little tour of my time in Toronto.
I adore the blooming flowers on spring days on Ryerson’s campus. Reading a book, having a little picnic or taking a nap in the quad is a great way to spend a nice summer day.I adore the blooming flowers on spring days on Ryerson’s campus. Reading a book, having a little picnic or taking a nap in the quad is a great way to spend a nice summer day.Or going to the beach to play some volleyball! If you’re into arts and design like I am, you’d love the Art Gallery of Ontario, one of my favourite museums in Toronto. I am always fascinated by the stunning art they display in this edgy building. For getting around Toronto, the TTC is your best friend. This photo was taken inside one of Toronto’s legendary street cars.Don’t forget to look up, sometimes we forget this view!
If you find the TTC too expensive, walking is the best way to explore Toronto. Personally, I like to explore the city of Toronto because sometimes, it surprises you.If you are a food lover and a good cook, St. Lawrence Market is the best place to go for fresh, top quality groceries!
The hot dog is one of Toronto’s local delicacies – it’s everywhere, cheap and yummy!
Autumn is my favourite season in Canada because the colours of the shedding leaves are absolutely beautiful. The city becomes covered in yellows and reds.Winter is certainly not my favourite season in Canada. I dislike how cold and windy Toronto gets! However, the snow is magical. If you’re heading to the MTCC for an early exam, there might be a chance for you to witness a beautiful sunrise on an early morning!
