Movember; Beards Not Welcome

This article’s about a subject that’s quite close to my heart: facial hair. I’m the type of guy that enjoys the commitment of growing a good beard, and all the benefits that come with it. With the winter months approaching, what better way for guys to keep their face warm than with an elegant beard and moustache?

However, the stakes are a bit raised this year; Movember is a movement that encourages men to grow moustaches for donations to Prostate Cancer Canada. Starting clean-shaven on November 1, men have 30 days to grow and sculpt a magnificent ‘stache, all while collecting donations from friends and family. Their progress is tracked through the Movember website, which allows members to join up into teams to compete to see who brings in the most cash. At the end of the month a gala event is held, with competitors dressing up in costumes that best suit their moustaches for the title of “Best Moustache.”

I plan on rocking the old “English Bartender” mutton chops-and-moustache combo, myself.

Prostate Cancer is a male-specific illness, and approximately 1 in 6 males will have the disease in their lifetime. As the campaign says, Movember looks to “change the face of men’s health.” Ryerson’s Engineering Department has their team registered on the Movember website, and have raised over $150 so far for the cause.
