My name is Zach Tng, I’m 18 years old and currently residing in Waterloo, Ontario. I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to share my “Road To Ryerson” with all of you! I’m headed to Ryerson this fall for RTA Media Production, and I’m really looking forward to it! I just graduated high school and I’m definitely in that weird transition phase where I don’t know how to feel about everything changing so quickly.

For my first blog entry, I want to share a little bit about myself, my likes and dislikes, and kind of where I’m coming from. Last summer, I read the book “The Truth About Stories” by Thomas King. Although it was really kind of boring (I’m definitely not much of a reader), there was one quote that really stuck with me: “The truth about stories is, that’s all we are”. I firmly believe that experiences change people, and my “stories” have definitely made me the person I am today. I promise I’m cooler than that made me sound. Anyways, this is a quick rundown of my story!

I was born a little over eighteen years ago in Calgary, Alberta, where I grew up. I moved to Ontario four years ago, and I definitely had a hard time letting go. I was really opposed to moving, and leaving everyone and everything was really devastating. However, life has a way of working itself out, and looking back on it, I’m really grateful for the move. Unlike 14 year old me, I’m super excited to be moving to Toronto next month, and hope to meet as many new people as possible. 🙂

I’m definitely not an outdoorsy person at all. It’s not like I’m scared of the great outdoors, I just prefer the solitude of my air conditioned basement. 9 times out of 10 I would rather spend my spare time cuddling with my dog or taking a nap, as opposed to getting my recommended 30 minutes of daily physical activity. As far as video games go, I never quite outgrew Pokemon, and I’m also really into Guitar Hero as well. I would consider myself a casual movie goer. I’m definitely not a film buff, but my favourite movies include: Mr and Mrs Smith, Get Smart, All the Star Wars’, and most of the Marvel ones.

As of right now, my future aspirations are definitely oriented towards television. Some of my favourite TV shows include: Survivor, Big Brother, Chuck, Dance Moms, and Agents of SHIELD. I’m a huge reality TV fan: my senior quote was “The tribe has spoken”, and I spearheaded voting people out of my friend group (only half jokingly). In 2011, I won season 3 of YTV’s “In Real Life”, a teen reality competition show. Observing all the behind the scenes activity on set definitely sparked my curiosity in the area.

That’s pretty much me! Hopefully that was a better indication of who I am, rather than what time I go to bed, or whether I’m clean or messy 😉 (I’m in the Facebook group, add me!). I’m sorry this blog was kind of long! I want to say I don’t talk this much in person, but I probably do, so. Stay tuned for more updates! I’ll definitely do some vlogs for your viewing pleasure (reading is hard, I relate). I could not be more excited for September, or to share my journey with all of you!
