The amount of girls that are on YouTube sharing their OOTD’s, shopping hauls, product reviews, advice and opinions are overwhelming. Sometimes I wish I was as fabulous as these fashion and beauty vloggers seemed.
One day I stopped myself.
Why couldn’t I be doing what all these girls are accomplishing? So I decided to take matters into my own hand. As a Ryerson fashion student living in downtown Toronto, I felt I had just as much interesting video material to start my own channel.
Here’s a list of 8 important checklist items a wannabe fashion and beauty vlogger always needs.

Videos don’t film themselves sadly and you’ll need help from time to time when that trusty tripod of yours just can’t get that 360 degree shot you’ve been dying for.

ABILITY TO MAKE YOURSELF SEEM FABULOUS
People don’t spend hours on YouTube so they can see videos of someone eating Fritos off their own chest while watching TV, they want to see something awesome.
Dash of Confidence + 2 Cups of Pretentiousness = FABULOUSNESS
MUSTER UP CONFIDENCE TO TALK TO AN INANIMATE OBJECT
You will need to learn how to talk to a camera as if it was a real human being that actually cares about anything you have to say, while it really doesn’t, ’cause it’s not human.

SCOUT THE PERFECT SHOOTING LOCATION
The background of where you’re shooting can have a positive or negative effect towards your viewership. Shooting downstairs in your parents’ basement? Probably not a good idea. Breaking onto the rooftop of your apartment building? Splendid.

BECOME A FILM EDITING WIZARD
You can’t be a vlogger without a film editing program or film editing skills. Either acquire them through personal training or blackmail someone to do it for you. Possibly easier.

SHAMELESS SELF PROMO & BEG FRIENDS TO SHARE YOUR VLOGS
Starting out, your videos aren’t going to go anywhere if there isn’t exposure, this is why you have friends. You force them to share your videos or threaten them with their deepest darkest secrets and treat them to a McDonalds Happy Meal afterwards.

JOIN ALL SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS KNOWN TO MAN

Last, but not least, you can’t make a video without some good lighting and help from Mother Nature. If she’s on your side, a sunny day will make your video exposure and lighting that much better and above the rest.

All that said and done, after I had acquired all 8 things off the vlogging checklist, I was ready to talk to an inanimate object like it was my imaginary best friend and shamelessly plug myself… This post really is about the 8 important facts on how to be a fashion and beauty vlogger!
