Orientation
Information for New Students
Orientation takes place the week before the start of classes, Sunday August 25th to Friday Sunday, September 2nd. The week is filled with fun activities that introduce new students to the Ryerson campus, the various programs and faculties, student groups, and downtown Toronto. Orientation provides students with the opportunities to make new friends and learn about everything Ryerson has to offer, so they can have a successful Ryerson experience both in the classroom and outside.
Ryerson has a variety of Orientation events throughout Orientation Week (O-Week). Some events are mandatory, others are not; some are free, and some you have to pay for. Here is an explanation of the various orientation programming that takes place during Orientation Week at Ryerson, and is available to different groups of students coming in fall 2013:
Academic Orientations (Possibly mandatory – varies by program)
Most new Ryerson students will have an academic orientation session planned for them that includes an introduction to faculty & staff in the academic department, information about program requirements, and general information about how to be successful in your program. If your program does not have an academic orientation, it just means that they plan to give you that information during your first week of classes.
Some of these sessions are mandatory. Please check back in June for updates about your program’s academic orientation plans.
Non-academic Orientations (Not mandatory)
These events are open to ALL first year Ryerson students and are free. Registration takes place every day. Ryerson Orientation is hosted by RU Student Life, and is a week of fun, free and exciting events during O-Week that connect first year students to one another and the Ryerson community. Past annual events have included: Invocation, Guinness World Record Challenge, Rams Basketball Game, Hypnotist, Orientation Welcome Gala, Flashmob and more! Check back regularly for updates about Ryerson Orientation, including the 2013 theme!
